FUNDRAISING AND AWARENESS CREATION

CSE's principal donors today are Ethiopiaid and Christoffel Blindenmission.

Given the desperate plight of the disabled in Ethiopia, awareness creation is crucial, both within Ethiopia and abroad. In Ethiopia, the Outreach and CBR programmes help raise awareness, and talks are increasingly being given at schools. Slowly negative attitudes towards disability are changing and becoming more supportive.

Annual Sponsored Walk and Local Donation

The first Cheshire Walk took place in 1973 and was the first sponsored walk ever to be organized in Ethiopia. It initially took the form of a walk but is now a cross-country trek starting on the outskirts of town, to the Rehabilitation Centre at Menagesha, some 20 km west of Addis. Over the years, the number of participants has increased significantly spanning many different nationalities, an excellent example of Ethiopians and expatriates working together not only to raise money for the rehabilitation of polio victims but, equally importantly, to promote awareness of disability.

The annual sponsored walk and local donation locally provides about 10% of the organization's annual running costs.
